Ebeltoft, which means “Apple Garden,” on a tongue of land at the southeastern tip of the Djursland Peninsula, is an idyllic little village about one hour by car from Århus. The village, founded in the year 1300, was an important market town in the Middle Ages and is today one of the most popular destinations for summer visitors to this part of Jutland. This is not one of the oldest towns in Denmark by any means; Århus, for example, is several centuries older. But, unlike Århus, which has grown into a city of nearly 300,000 people, Ebeltoft hasn’t changed much since the Middle Ages and the old town still looks pretty much the same as it did then.
